Absolutely Whootie:Stories to Grow By

A collection of folk and fairy tales from around the world. After reading each story, children can write online what they think the story was trying to show them and click to see what other children had to say, too. If you are a teacher, look for free teaching materials to accompany the stories.

American Passages: A Literary Survey

This website features a series of 16 half-hour videos which play from the web in a quarter screen view. Video titles include Native Voices, Utopian Promise, Masculine Heroes, Gothic Undercurrents, Slavery and Freedom and more. The site requires a (one-time) registration and log in for viewing. Registration is free. This is upper level material and only the videos may be of use for High School.

A resource site for the life of "Anne Frank". You can look through a photo scrapbook of her life, along with some background about her diary.

Arthur: The World's Most Famous Aardvark

This PBS site allows you to view pages designated for each character in the Arthur series. There are printable coloring pages, postcards you can print and mail (or email), as well as other activities. Click on a character such as Binky and deal with sequencing using audio readers.

"Book Adventure is a FREE reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Book Adventure was created by the Sylvan Learning Foundation and is a non-profit organization."

Brain Quest

Most teachers and parents have used the printed version of BRAIN QUEST for years in academic challenges. This is the on-line version of the game where everybody wins. BRAIN QUEST challenges kids on the stuff they need to know, including math, science, social studies, and reading. Kids can play it alone or with friends, as a review of the grade just finished or preview of the grade to come.

Camping with the Sioux

This is a field diary of Alaice Cuningham Fletcher who set out in 1881 to study the life of the Sioux women. It includes wonderful folktales and photographs of Native Americans.
