Our Five Senses
© Tom Grill/Corbis
By: Lea Ann McIntosh, Graves County Schools
Going to the movies can be a memorable experience for anyone. As soon as you walk through the door, the smell of popcorn, vivid pictures on the big screen, loud sounds blaring through the speakers, the taste of salty popcorn and an ice cold soda, and the chill of the frosty theater are all elements that create a memorable experience that will last a lifetime. The five senses are responsible for life experiences like this becoming unforgettable.
As early as the kindergarten, students begin to learn about their five senses and how they facilitate learning about the world around them. Youngsters begin to recognize how the senses work together and how they aid them in gathering information about new environments and encounters. They discover how each of the senses protects them and keeps them from harm. They find out how difficult life could be without one or more of their senses. The children will recognize the importance of the senses and learn to appreciate and value their five senses.
The Immigration Debate

America is thought of as "the land of the free" by many people, but what must a person do in order to immigrate to the United States? For years the US has been thought of as the land of opportunity, a place where dreams come true and anything can happen. The dream of freedom and a brighter future brought many people to America years ago, and it still brings many immigrants to the US today. People in the United States have more rights and freedoms than they do in any other county.
