Turning on the news these days can be depressing with all the gloom and doom in our nation's economy. Our students are hearing words like recession, depression, and unemployment used in everyday conversation. Nearly five million Americans are drawing unemployment checks and the president has passed an economic stimulus package to jump-start the economy. The current economic crisis is causing concerns for everyone. Teenagers through baby boomers need to understand economics, history and mathematics to answer questions about their futures.

Are you considering allowing your students to complete video projects and share them online?  With affordable, easy-to-use digital cameras and the many "tube" sites, sharing video in the classroom is just a few easy steps away.  

Kentucky teachers already have access to a library of video resources (KET-Encyclomedia/United Streaming).  There are still many reasons to create and share videos.

  • Creating and sharing videos is a great way to engage students. Students who may not be reached by traditional teaching and assignments are given an opportunity to be creative and showcase what they have learned and can do. 
  • Integrating video sharing into the classroom also requires more technology skills.  Students can actually create a video, upload it to the computer, in some cases edit their video, and then post it to a web site.
  • Sharing video provides students with "real-world" audiences.
