Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears - Children love the magic of stories. As students progress through their education, they are required to move from a simple enjoyment and appreciation of such works to an ability to identify and analyze the elements that create the magic. Whether examining short stories, novels, narrative poetry, or plays, students build confidence in recognizing common plot elements while at the same time discovering key differences in format and language.
Open Office: A Cost Cutting Solution?

With budget cuts looming, several school districts have been forced to be creative in how they spend their money. As a result, schools are experimenting with free open source software packages as alternatives to costly software packages. One way school districts are finding to cut costs is by deploying Open Office instead of Microsoft Office on district computers. Open Office is a completely free open source software package for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, and databases.
While Open Office seems like a good way to cut spending, there is some debate as to whether the software is as good as Microsoft Office.
