Electronic mail (email) has become one of the most prevalent forms of communication of the 21st century.  The use of the postal service for sending correspondence is dwindling.  Students must be prepared to use this "new" form of communication in their personal lives, school lives and work lives.  The Kentucky Program of Studies indicates that students beginning in early primary school should be able to communicate using email.  Students as young as five will be using email to talk to friends and family in their "out of school" lives and hopefully to community leaders, business owners, professionals, teachers and mentors in their "school lives".  Teachers have long been responsible for teaching communication skills.  Email is just another form of communication to be included in communication education.

August 8, 2008 marks the beginning of the Summer Olympics to be held in Beijing, China.  The games carry a rich historical background but can also be a unique opportunity for teachers to cover many areas of  core content.

The 29th Summer Olympiad will continue the philosophy of the Olympic movement to foster the "qualities of body, will and mind" by blending sports with culture and education. According to the governing body of the Olympic movement the games have "always brought people together in peace to respect universal moral principles."  Steeped in tradition, a study of the Olympic games will expose students to a world beyond their own.

WMHS Television 13 “The Tiger Stripes”

Communication and technology go hand in hand inside the WMHS TV 13 Murray High School Television Production studio class each day.

Through the numerous television production skills including camera operation, audio, editing and writing, researching and interview skills, the students are able to produce a monthly magazine news show highlighting their complete Murray Independent School district (Murray Preschool/Murray Headstart, Murray Elementary, Murray Middle, and Murray High Schools, as well as personal interviews with MHS Alumni) to air on the Cable Access channel 13.

A Murray Electric System and Newwave Communications Cable venue, the MISD news reaches almost 8,000 homes of each respective cable subscriber.
