Welcome to the Counseling Programs at Murray State University

Professional Counseling is a dynamic and invaluable career in today’s world of mental health care and is a necessary and compatible companion to other mental health professions.

According to the American Counseling Association (ACA, 1997), the practice of Professional Counseling is defined as: ”the application of mental health, psychological, or human development principles, through cognitive, affective, behavioral or systematic intervention strategies, that address wellness, personal growth, or career development, as well as pathology”.

Murray State University is dedicated to the teaching and training of ethical and qualified professional counselors who work in a number of settings.

Our Degrees and Programs

The Professional Counseling programs at Murray State University, prepare our graduates to improve the lives of children and adults throughout our region.

Our degrees and programs are divided into two specialty areas: School Counseling and Community Counseling.
