The elementary education program prepares students to teach in K-5 elementary classrooms. This four-year preparation program includes courses in University Studies, professional education, and an academic emphasis area. Students interact with children in local schools during the professional education courses taken each year of the program. Students completing one of the programs of study will be certified to teach all regular subject matter areas in an elementary school. The programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
Undergraduate students may earn a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. Graduate students may pursue a Specialist in Education or Master of Arts in Education degrees. The department also offers two non-degree programs: Fifth Year and MA + 30.
