Japan in a Briefcase

Kumiko Fukuhara from the Japan America Society of Kentucky made a presentation on May 11 at Alexander Hall entitled Japan in a Suitcase for MSU faculty, staff and students as well as area high school students.

Fukuhara’s interactive presentation included an introduction about Japanese culture and language through the display of several artifacts. She spoke about the daily life of a Japanese high school student and how it compared to that of an American high school student.

Fukuhara was a guest of MSU Teacher Quality Institute professor Yoko Hatakeyama who teaches a Japanese class at Calloway County High School. Hatakeyama brought her students to the presentation where they were able to discuss what they had learned in class and compare it to Fukuhara’s experiences.
