Japan-in-a-Suitcase Presented at MSU
Yoko Hatakeyama, faculty scholar for MSU’s Teacher Quality Institute, hosted a visitor from the Japan America Society of America (JASK) during the first week in May. Kumiko Fukuhara visited Murray for one week to present Japan-in-a-Suitcase. On May 4, Fukuhara visited Alexander Hall to give her presentation to interested students and faculty members. During the week she also gave 18 presentations to children at Murray Middle, Fancy Farm Elementary, North Calloway Elementary, Crittenden County Elementary, and Murray Elementary.
At the presentations, Fukuhara had several artifacts from Japan, her home country, in a suitcase. She took the items out and told about each one so attendees could learn firsthand about life in Japan. “Faculty members from several colleges and some of our education students attended her presentation in Alexander Hall, reported Tom Lough, but I especially enjoyed observing her presentation to Holly Bloodworth’s children at Murray Elementary School. They were so excited about the opportunity to learn more about the school children of Japan!”
