Wall Named COE Dean
After serving two years as interim dean, Dr. Russ Wall was recently named dean of the College of Education. “Murray State is a wonderful institution to be a part of,” Wall said. “It’s nice to be surrounded by such amazing faculty and staff. I’m excited about this new endeavor.”
As a leader, Wall believes the focus should always be on the future and that the past will show our path. “I am constantly asking myself three questions: What are we doing right? What can be improved? What is the most efficient and effective way to improve?” Wall said.
Wall, a native of Hopkinsville, KY, held various positions within the College of Education and public schools prior to his appointment as interim dean and now dean. From 2000-2003 Wall served as assistant dean for the college under the leadership of Jack Rose. He was director of school services and research for six years (1993-1999), followed by 1 year as assistant superintendent for Trigg County Schools in Cadiz, KY. He began teaching in 1982 at Frankfort High School in Frankfort, KY, where he also coached. In 1989 he became assistant principal of Calloway County High School and served in that role until 1993.
Wall obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education in Biology and Physical Education and Health from the University of Kentucky in 1980. He continued his education by receiving a Master’s in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sports Psychology (UK), Rank I (Eastern Kentucky University), and Ed.D. in Instruction and Education Administration (UK).
