COE Faculty Member Represents MSU in Belize
Murray State University is a member of the Consortium for Belize Educational Cooperation (COBEC). The consortium was established in the late 1980s to link post secondary educational institutions in Belize and other countries for the purpose of strengthening and expanding their capabilities in education. Members of the consortium collaborate in research and teaching and promote faculty, staff, and student exchanges among their institutions. The goals of the consortium include developing programs to address the higher education needs in Belize and contributing to the internationalization of member institutions.
COE faculty member Bonnie Higginson is MSU’s representative to COBEC. She attends two meetings each year of representatives from higher education institutions in the United States and Belize. U.S. consortium institutions number 19, from states across the country. Higginson and other MSU faculty have presented workshops for Belizean educators on topics such as assessment and content literacy. Through grant requests, Higginson hopes to train Belizean teachers and provide study abroad opportunities for MSU students.
