Global society luncheon To Be Held October 24 (PDF)
The second of six 2006-2007 Global Society Luncheons is scheduled for October 24. The presentation will be led by Dr. Bonnie Higginson, ECE faculty member and graduate students, Sherilyn Loague from Ladyville, Belize, and Marga Lopez from Corozal Town, Belize. The luncheons are part of the Dean of Education’s Multicultural Series that supports the University’s goal of internationalization of the campus and curriculum. Dr. Bonnie Higginson Receives Humanitarian Award (PDF)
Dr. Bonnie Higginson was selected as the first recipient of the Dr. Melvin D. Mills Humanitarian Award. She was nominated by Tara Jackson, who is majoring in Business Administration.

Lifang Liu and Xiaohong Shan represent the People’s Education Press in Beijing, China. Lifang Liu writes and edits English textbooks for elementary school students and Xiaohong Shan writes and edits textbooks of moral education.
COE Report Card - Excellent Performance
The Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board recently released the Kentucky Educator Preparation Programs’ Quality Performance Index for 2005-2006. The rating of Excellent Performance was achieved by Murray State’s College of Education. This is the second straight year that the college has received this honor.
Kentucky Outstanding Teacher Awards
The Murray State University College of Education presented the 2006 Outstanding Kentucky Teacher Awards at the annual Harry M. Sparks Distinguished Lecture Series on June 13.
Sparks Lecture Series
The 2006 Sparks Lecture, an annual College of Education event instituted to honor Dr. Harry M. Sparks, the fifth President of Murray State University, will be held on June 13, 2006 at the Wrather Auditorium. The reception will begin at 4:00 pm and the lecture will follow at 5:00 pm. Dr. Willard Daggett will be the featured speaker for the event.
Japan in a Suitcase
Kumiko Fukuhara from the Japan America Society of Kentucky made a presentation on May 11 at Alexander Hall entitled Japan in a Suitcase for MSU faculty, staff and students as well as area high school students.
Heartland’s Best Teachers for 2006
The College of Education would like to congratulate the 12 teachers who have been selected as the Heartland’s Best Teachers for 2006. KFVS12, Craftmasters’ KidSmart, Alliance Bank, Galemore Motor Company and Banterra Bank sponsored this campaign to honor exceptional teachers from the 2005-2006 academic year.
Student Teaching at Murray State
Murray State University’s Teacher Education programs strive to provide leadership, service and research at regional, state and national levels to produce exemplary teachers and other human service professionals. The college is comprised of three departments and offers associate, baccalaureate, masters and post-masters degrees and certifications for teachers and other school personnel. The college also offers specialist in education degrees and a joint doctoral program with the University of Reading in England.
MSU Representatives Attend International Conference on Education
The East West Council for Education, Asia Pacific Research Institute of Peking University, St. Mary’s College of California: School of Education, and the University of Louisville’s Center for Sustainable Urban Neighborhoods co-sponsored the Fourth Annual Hawaii International Conference on Education Jan. 6-9. Several representatives from Murray State University attended.
Edington Receives Board of Regents Teaching Award
The College of Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Susan Edington has been named the COE recipient of the Board of Regents Teaching Excellence Award this year. The college would also like to congratulate Dr. Joe DeBella as being a finalist from the Department of Adolescent, Career and Special Education, and Dr. Mary Lou Yeatts for being selected as a finalist from the Department of Educational Studies, Leadership and Counseling. Nominees are submitted and selected based on their interest and enthusiasm for teaching, commitment and concern for students, adaptation of teaching methods, and academic advising.
