Mrs. Wilson, in a quiet unassuming way, inspired each student to perform at very high levels. It was very important to me (and I think to all her students) to submit my best work to her and to always aspire to do even better. Thank you, Mrs. Wilson. Because of you, I became a teacher!

Kenneth Galloway
Submitted By: Marla Smith
Kenneth "Pete" Galloway was my high school agriculture teacher. He was not afraid to let you see that he was human. He would laugh with us when something was funny, yet he was not afraid to cry with us when we faced adversity. He taught me self-discipline in order to finish projects. But most of all,he inspired me to believe that I could whatever I set my mind to do.
Don Glick
Submitted By: Tom Lough
Mr. Glick was the most enthusiastic, passionate, and compassionate teacher I have ever known. Anything he taught was delivered with enthusiasm and passion. Any student he taught was treated with compassion. As long as a student was making an honest effort to learn, Mr. G treated him/her with respect and patience. Through his example, he taught me the value of these traits. But he also taught me the value of a service perspective in all that I do. What good is any individual achievement unless others benefit as well? Through the person he was, Don Glick inspired generations of Montevideo High School students. I know. I was one of them. Thank you, sir!
Mr. William (Bill) Taylor
Submitted By: William Koenecke
Mr. Taylor was my algebra II teacher during my junior year in high school. He was a significant influence upon my life and was one of several teachers who inspired me to become a teacher. I've been associated with numerous teachers during my forty years as a teacher, principal, school superintendent, and university professor and Bill Taylor is at the head of the line. He was a fair teacher who established high standards for his teaching performance as well as his expected performance for his students. He was well prepared for class, an expert in mathematics, and truly cared for his students. Mr. Taylor along with my other teachers are responsible for any success that I've had during my career in the field of education. It is my understanding that he is still teaching on a part-time basis in a community college and I'm sure that he is still influencing his students in a positive way. He was certainly an influence on me and many others and I thank him for helping me become not only a teacher, but a better person and a productive member of our society. Thank you Mr. Taylor!

Hugh Ridenour
Submitted By: Duane Bolin
Hugh Rideour made me understand that the learning of History was serious business. He taught me the necessity of learning History, but he also taught me the necessity of "doing History." His enthusiasm was contagious, and it is largely because of him that I decided to spend my life teaching, researching, and writing History. I owe him a great deal.
Mrs. Nancy Baker
Submitted By: Kimberly F. Cravens
She made everything interesting. Plus, she read to us every day. When she read they were chapter books, and a few especially were my favorite - those by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I also broke my arm that year, and she was very patient with me. I didn't miss out on anything, she just gave me extra help if I needed it. She was patient and kind to everyone!!!
Dr. Camille Serre
Submitted By: Melissa O'Brien
She's my advisor, for one. When I met her, I was shocked to see someone so animated about teaching. Despite us being in a college, she made us feel almost like little kids. We wanted to be in her class. She's the type of teacher always doing something for someone. Extremely outgoing and very kind. There's not enough space to praise all her good qualities. But she's one of those teachers I wish I could have again.

Dr. Hansen was the best teacher I ever had. She was hard and you had a lot of work to do but she is the teacher I will always remember. She always had a smile on her face and wanted to help you succeed. I am an IECE major and her focus was on Elementary Majors so I only had her for this one class, but I wish I would have gotten to have more classes by her.

Mr.Herndon was my favorite teacher because he taught me that I could do whatever I wanted to do in life. Sometimes it took a lot of hard work, patience and the help of others, but it could be done. He helped me to see that all things can be accomplished. He is one of the reasons why I want to be a teacher. I hope to touch kids hearts and let them know that I care about them, the way he cared about us. He was one of my inspirations in high school. I would not have been as successful as I was without his guidance and support. He was not only my teacher, but also my friend.

Deana Nichols
Submitted By: Brandy Addison
When I moved to Crittenden County High school I was a senior. Crittenden County was the 7th high school I had attended. I had been placed in foster care and I was very depressed. Mrs. Nichols was my special education teacher for math. She was always there for me not only as a teacher, but as a friend. She motivated me to keep learning when I was ready to give up. There were days when I forced myself to get up and go to school only because I knew she would be waiting there with a smile. When things got really bad and all my so called friends were too busy to listen, she was always there for me. I know that I would not have graduated high school and made it to Murray State had it not been for her compassion, caring, and encouragment.

We called Dr. Gantt, "Mr. school teacher." He was a good teacher. Dr. Gantt was caring, enthusiastic, prepared, organized, genuine, and loved his job. He respected each and everyone of his students. Dr. Gantt encouraged his students to strive for excellence inside the classroom and outside of the classroom as well. A teacher such as Dr. Gant was a rarity even back in my time, and today, yet is from what I hear.
Tracy Gutsche
Submitted By: Whitney Ferrell
I had Mrs. Gutsche for senior AP English. She demanded respect and hard work from her students, which I feel paid off, because everyone learned a lot from her class. The reason she sticks out in my mind, and is so special to me, is because she took a real interest in her students. She got to know them on a personal level and was willing to make time for anyone. I also worked for her as a student worker my senior year, so I got to know her more personally. She is a graduate of Murray State, and that always gave us something to talk about since she knew I planned on attending as well. I haven't been back to visit Mrs. Gutsche since I graduated, although I have thought about her many times since then. It's so simple for teachers to make an impact on students simply by how they teach and relate to them. Tracy Gutsche definitely made an impact on my high school career and has continued to on into college. I may work within the school system one day with my profession (Speech Pathology), and if I do, I hope that I bring to my classroom what Mrs. Gutsche brought to hers: hard work, motivation, and compassion.
Rick Metcalf
Submitted By: Sarah Trieglaff-Metcalf
Not only is Mr. Metcalf my dad, but also my favorite teacher. He was my history and geography teacher in high school and now I am planning on being a history teacher myself. His class was exciting. He was always trying to envolve every student. Whether he was telling stories related to the lesson or talking about current events, which he called "news to snooze by" his students were always interested. Mr.Metcalf could identify with every student which made him a favorite among all students. He challenged all the students but was always willing to help. He's a great teacher and an even greater dad!!!!

Steve Knob
Submitted By: Jerry Phillips
Mr. Knob was my high school band director. He was a man of principle and kindness. He taught me about fairness and just being a "good person". I looked forward to band practice, reherasals, and class every day, because being around a positive person makes you feel positive. He always had quotes of inspiration to draw upon and he actually cared for his students. He not only taught students to be better musicians; he taught his students about being better people. He probably doesn't even realize the impact he has created in my life, but I know I'm a better person because I was lucky to be able to learn from him.
Joe Baust
Submitted By: Greg Gierhart
When I was an undergraduate Dr. Baust helped me immensely to understand the importance of mathematics education. He instilled in me the importance of teaching mathematics so that children will understand mathematics. He will never know how much he has influenced my life. I thank him for his friendship and his influence.
Drs. Dick and Sandi Flynn
Submitted By: Greg Gierhart
Dr. Dick Flynn taught why effective teachers make the difference. He taught me how to look at student data to make decsions. His philosophical thoughts challenge me. Without him, I would not have been able to have a topic for my dissertation. Dr. Sandi Flynn had a way of making me feel as if I was important. No matter how busy she was she always took a minute to provide advice. I truly miss her leadership and wit, but know that she instilled in me a sense of understanding the importance of education for children.
Kathy Hytten
Submitted By: Greg Gierhart
Dr. Kathy Hytten was the first professor that I met that taught me to love reading again. Because of her course, I was able to open my mind and construct a frame of mind to make decisions about the world around me. Mr. Humphreys was one of those rare teachers who although took school and teaching very seriously, never took himself too seriously. He made chorus and school an absolute joy. He made all of us laugh with his crazy antics. I took Chorus I and Chorus II back around 1985-86, and to this day I hold a special place in my heart for him. We all have that one special teacher who touches our lives that we never forget-that teacher for me is Mr. H!!!

Dr. Busch has been my role model in how to be an effective advisor. He was my advisor/mentor in the doctoral program in special education at the University of Missouri. He promised to get me through the program and kept his promise! He provided information and support as I interviewed for my first university position and helped me talk through pro's and con's when I received offers. I have always felt fortunate that I had the good luck to have Dr. Busch as my advisor. I never actually took one of his courses but he was a sensitive and supportive advisor and mentor.
Dr. Jacqueline Hansen

Dr. Hansen is a wonderful individual. She cares about the students as individuals as well as students. Our emotional well-being is as important as our academic achievement. She pushes us to achieve to the best of our ability and gives us an extra push to stretch out that little bit further. Mrs. Vanda Elliott
Submitted By: Tia Myers
Ms. Elliott was the first math teacher I ever had who took the time to not only teach me math in a way that I could easily understand it, but she also took the time to teach me little lessons on life. She seemed to do that with all her students in all her classes. She was never too busy, sick, or annoyed to listen to our problems and answer questions whether they were math related or not was irrelevant. She was, and is, just an all around great teacher.

Ms Cook really enjoyed math and she enjoyed her students. She had a way of making your disappointments hers and rejoicing in your victories. She had a calm, quiet voice which I never heard raised. Mr. Garry Wheatley
Submitted By: J.T. Crawford
Mr. Wheatley taught television production. He always had classes that contained a mix of students: those who were genuinely interested in television, and those looking for something to get themselves out of the regular high school curriculum. Mr. Wheatley taught both groups, but for those of us who were there to learn more about the magic of television, he went above and beyond. He allowed us the opportunity to experiment, and he granted us projects that expanded our experiences and taught us the basics. It was in his class that I decided the mass media would become my career. I am now beginning my career as a documentarian, and it would have not been possible without Mr. Wheatley.
Dr. Laura Dawkins

Dr. Dawkins' has a very kind demeanor. She listened intuitively to her students, and she related well to students' issues and concerns. As my graduate advisor and teacher, Dr. Dawkins assisted me in completing my graduate degree with the confidence I needed. Dr. Dawkins class sessions were always interesting and enjoyable. I will always remember her as the best instructor I have ever had!

Jennifer Cox
Submitted By: Steven Taylor
She was always kind and sweet to me, whether it was meeting in the hallway or, later, when she coached the MCHS Academic Team, of which I was star player. Obviously knowledgable about English, she taught with a kind of quiet fervor that I admired, and I learned much in her class. But most importantly, during a particularly dismal day of my junior year, I sat despondant at the end of my angsty little rope, daydreaming in the back row of the room about how best to off myself that night. That was when we read Henry David Thoreau's "On Resistance to Civil Government." I couldn't understand it. "How can this man consider himself free if he sits in a small dismal cell?" I asked. Then it hit me. My eyes grew bright, my mouth grinned, and I began to laugh out loud in the back of a crowded classroom. FREEDOM! I screamed on the inside. I was freer than they could ever imagine, and no one owned a piece of me. That saved my life. I told her of this story later, in my senior year. I believe that knowing she saved the life of a student has been one of the greatest moments of her life. Teachers don't just teach the three R's; they teach us how to survive. Thanks again, Miz Cox.

Mrs. Wyatt

In Elementary school I was the kid that terrifies teachers--the one who finishes his work early then torments those around him who are trying to finish their work! Mrs. Wyatt channeled all my excess energy to serve a constructive purpose and made me believe I was the smartest boy in the whole world. I will never forget her.

While I knew that she was intelligent and respected her, she also made me feel as if she were a normal person that I could talk to if I needed to. She made me feel comfortable regardless of her title. She didn't try to intimidate me or anything and I really appreciated that.

Her classes had a special edge that drew you into what she was teaching...it was just amazing. My senior year, I joined the yearbook staff so once again I had the joy of working with Mrs. Matthews. Once again, her dedication to her work was evident and our staff strived to meet her expectations!! Almost 3 years later, I am still in constant contact with Mrs. Matthews. John Buckman was my accounting, intro 2 business and computer applications teacher. He was very committed to his school where he taught and to his church. Each christmas time he would drive a truck full of toys and clothing to appalachia to help fill the christmas dreams of those kids who may never of had a christmas before. he was always enthusiastic and knew how to cheer a person up when they were down. he would tell us joke and stories to make us laugh.

Ms. Hardin is one of the kindest teachers a student could ask for. She was always eager to teach and cared if you learned the material. She wouldn't go on with the lesson until everyone understood. As a guidance counselor she would drop whatever it was she was doing to help you. She enjoys working with students and you can tell that she does.

Mr. Hensley was a very intimidating man. At first he seemed like such a grouch, but as I grew up and became more respectful, he became a nicerman. He was my High School Orchestra teacher, and though he really did not teach me a lot about music, he taught me a lot about life. He had so many values and cared so much about us, that it helped me as a person. Mr. Hensley died at the beginning of my senior year, but his memory remains and a star will always shine for him.

As cheesy as it sounds, she actually made learning fun. She set a good example of the type of teacher I hope to be someday. I would hope that anyone persuing a career in education gets the chance to have a teacher as great as she. She is intelligent, funny, and a sincere person.

She really seemed to enjoy her job, and she was always very caring towards us. Also, she tried to get to know us all on a personal level instead of strictly just a student teacher relationship. This really showed that she cared.

Mr. Wheatley was such an amazing teacher to me. He inspired me during my years at sacred heart. I used to never try in school at all but when I did it was of course Mr. Wheatley that noticed. Hearing how proud he was of me made me want to do even better in school. He was the only teacher that notice and that meant a whole lot to me. Not to mention he helped me across the stage at my graduation. This teacher has such a big heart, and it is him that i owe alot of my success to. I love that man!

Mrs. Stonecipher was a wonderful teacher. She taught Health and was very passionate about it. I could tell she really wanted the students to understand how importantit was to know what she was telling us. She loved every minute of teaching and still does! She really cares about her students and gave every opportunity for help if it was needed. She definitely encouraged me to want to be a teacher and I know that I could talk to her anytime about anything and she would give me the best advice!

He made the class challenging. He was a history teacher who was more concernced with teaching than just coaching a team. Not only that, he cared if the students learned. He also did not put up with any troubles makers. He had excellent classroom management.

Mr. Toy was on of the most underestanding techers I have ever had. He is the perfect model of what a good teacher should be. He could relate to his students on a personal level but still be able to teach them the material. He had the ability to teach his students not only the required material but lessons for everyday life.

Mrs. Stubblefield is without a doubt the sweetness person I have had the pleasure of running across. She made her class fun and worthwhile. While getting a very useful education on culinary skills, Mrs. Stubblefield taught her class a life lesson everyday. Not only is she a great teacher but a motherly-figure who is a great role model.

Mrs. Kinder was always involved in something with the students. She taught us to drive her old car, Buttons. We didn't have a drama department in Jr. High so she incorporated it into her English classes and we had school plays. She invited groups of students to her home over the weekend to keep us out of mischief. She and her husband, Herb, took us to debate tournaments and cooked us dinner for an awards banquet at the end of the year. Her classes were always interesting and she tried to relate the subject to things that were important to our lives. She and Herb made me feel like I was a special and important part of their lives, we still keep in touch and she is the model for the type of teacher I hope to become.

My first day in Dr. Richerson's EDU 303 class, I was scared to death of her. However, I soon realized that she would teach me more about teaching than I could ever imagine. I am grateful to her for helping me find my place in the world of education and for letting just enough of her wonderful craziness rub off on me.

Mrs. Young taught grades k-12, and was a teacher for 29 years. Since retirement, she has worked in the school system substituting and operating the Gifted and Talented program. She's an awesom Girl Scout Leader, Girl Scout Service Unit Manager, and Girl Scout Kyana Board Member. She still teaches piano lessons in her own studio. She's educated children in various settings and has touched many lives. I was never given the opportunity to sit in her classroom because I was her daughter, but I wanted to, so very much! My mom has taught children and been the education cornerstone for lots of people today, including me, though I was never in her classroom! Thanks Mom, and I love you! You are admired, and adored!

I had Dr. Cobb for two English classes and one independent,post-baccalaureate course. She is the best in her field! She made me feel as if I were the only student she had. She would make time available to help me achieve my goals even though she had other advisees. Thank you Dr. Cobb for being there and helping this nontraditional student feel as if she would succeed and eventually become a colleague. I count myself extremely honored to be a "colleague-in-arms" in the educational field but very humble as well. I only hope that someday I will be half the teacher you are, Dr. Cobb.

It seems like forever ago that Mrs. Hansen was teaching 3rd grade. That's how long ago it was; she was still just Mrs.! She made such a lasting impression on my life. As I graduate high school, I know that I want to become a teacher. Dr. Hansen taught me life-long lessons that I will never forget, and she made learning enjoyable. It is wonderful to see that she is still touching people's lives.
