Assessment Services

Murray State University’s Center for Gifted Studies provides assessment services for families using the Annemarie Roeper Qualitative Assessment Method. Dr. Joy Navan, a specialist in Gifted Education and Director of the Center for Gifted Studies, was trained by Dr. Roeper and is a Master Practitioner in the QA method.

The Annemarie Roeper Qualitative Assessment Method recognizes that giftedness involves the whole person – cognitive, emotional and psychological. Emotions and other facets of giftedness reveal much about the child and the child’s world and cannot be measured quantitatively. It is essential for the child’s well-being and development that we recognize and all aspects of giftedness are recognized and honored.

The purpose of the QA Method is, in the words of Dr. Roeper “to develop a clear vision of the uniqueness of the child to assist in creating or finding a clear path toward unhindered emotional and cognitive growth.” Additionally, Dr. Roeper informs us that QA strives, “to find ways to fit the environment to the child rather than seeing how the child fits into the environment.”

A nominal fee is charged, which is used to purchase materials, for training expenses, and to further the mission of the Center.
