Preservice EE Experience – EDU 404
This experience is a course requirement for students who are enrolled in ELE 401 and ELE 402. It is also open to all other students who are interested in learning more about how they can incorporate the environment into their teaching. Much of the experience is spent outdoors, rain or shine, doing inquiry-based activities in small groups that connect to content areas across the curriculum. Some sessions will be physically active and all of them will be engaging. Be prepared to have an open mind, a great time, and to learn some practical applications for your classroom.
The 48-hour experience is held at Brandon Spring Group Camp at Land Between the Lakes. It is a requirement that students stay at the facility for the entire 48 hours of the course. For more details, please check the calendar.
Finally, as an attendee of the preservice weekend, you have the opportunity to gain a 1-hour course credit (EDU 404) by actively participating in the weekend. If you want the credit, you can simply register via Racer-Touch at the beginning of the semester, or we will register you for the course through our office. Generally, the fall semester will have two (2) sections. On-Campus and Madisonville students will attend EDU 404-01, while Paducah, Hopkinsville, and Henderson students will attend EDU 404-02. In the spring semester, there is usually just one section offered for which all students will attend, EDU 404-01.
Starting Fall 2009, EDU 404, Teaching Environmental Education, will be offered with the new pairing of ELE 304 Teaching Mathematics, and ELE 402 Teaching Science.
